2018 GUA FENG ZHAI - GU SHU - (ripe)
China - Gua Feng Zhai village, Yiwu county, Yunnan province
A really lovely smooth, soft, natural puerh tea cake from the village of Gua Feng Zhai, the most remote village in Yiwu county, close to the Laos border in an area of ancient tea plantations. Yiwu Shan is one of the most up-coming puerh tea growing areas at the moment.
GU SHU literally means ‘old tree’, and the large leaves are hand-picked from ancient arbour trees in a mountainous terrain where the tropical climate and clay soils produce a tea, complex, rich and sweet. After picking, the leaves are sun-dried, withered, fermented, and pressed in stone moulds in the traditional way.
The older the tree the deeper are the roots which absorb water and trace minerals which nourish the growth of the tree. Growing in a natural environment free from pesticides and fertilisers these ancient trees produce a robust, smooth, rich tasting tea.
